Environmental Support Specialist

Job Description



Gideon Energy Services Inc., is looking for an environmental support specialist to work within the Environment & Sustainability group of our client in Regina, SK. The candidate will supplement and support in-house resources for the Storage and Transmission Project Development Review program.

Candidate should have experience in environmental management and protection in Saskatchewan, relating to environmental, planning, permitting and approvals of pipeline and industrial projects.


Duties may include, but are not limited to;


§  Environmental planning, permitting, auditing, and assessment for transmission pipelines, compressor stations and natural gas storage and processing facilities, including National Energy Board (NEB) regulated assets.

§  Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental assessments, permit applications, licenses, and reports to federal regulators.

§  Provide technical and analytical leadership in the investigation, analysis and resolution of environmentally related issues.

§  Environmental project management to ensure sound routing and planning, timely approvals, license/permits/authorizations, adequate compliance, monitoring of program performance indicators, and the application of environmental assessments and reporting as required in Saskatchewan, furthermore:

o   The candidate will provide environmental planning and oversight on major transmission infrastructure projects, while overseeing environmental assessments and regulatory requirements.

o   The candidate will form part of the project team and will aid in risk management, scheduling, estimating, regulatory liaison services and routing/siting.

o   The candidate will meet frequently with internal and external engineering and project management resources as part of the project management initiative.

o   Basic mapping and GIS application/interpretation may be required.

o   Direction and oversight in the areas of archaeological and heritage concerns.

o   Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities for major projects.

o   The candidate is expected to have a strong background and understanding of pipeline planning, environmental permitting, and the natural gas sector as they relate to environmental management and protection.


 Preferred Qualifications:


·         University Degree (natural sciences: i.e. agriculture, ecology, environmental engineering, biology, geography, environmental sciences, etc.)

·         Experience working in Saskatchewan in the environmental planning and permitting areas related to pipelines and industrial project development (i.e. oil and gas).

·         An alternative may be considered (i.e. experience, diploma or other combination of education and experience)

·         Proficient with Microsoft Word, ArcMap/GIS, Google Earth, and Excel.

·         Familiar with pipeline engineering drawings, alignment sheets, individual ownership plans and maps.

·         First Aid and CPR.

·         Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.


The Primary duties will be based at our client’s Head Office in Regina, SK; though some field travel will be required. This contract is one year renewable contact up to 2021. The start date for this position is as soon as possible. Please provide available start in your cover letter.
